Where are you currently working and what is the biggest issue that you are facing at work or what is currently keeping you busy there?
Life has been fascinating since I left Hamburg, Germany. I have tried my hands in politics, business and academia. Finally, I settled in academia. I am now a Senior Lecturer, at the University of Embu. I joined the University in 2014 and I have been chairing the Department of Computing and Information Technology besides lecturing. As a Chairman of Department, I manage administrative, technical and academic staff members. I also direct the formulation of both short-term and long-term plans for the Department and by extension the University. I am very excited to apply skills learnt at the NIT in handling both current and emerging issues.
Has there been a professional challenge since you were a student for which your studies or experiences at the NIT have prepared you for perfectly?
To be sincere, the NIT prepared me adequately to multi-task, to work under pressure and to balance between work and life. Currently, I am expected to teach, manage people in order to have them deliver results within strict deadlines while at the same time handling students’ issues at the University. In addition, I sit in Boards of Management (BOM) for five high schools in Kenya where I am supposed to formulate strategies aimed at uplifting academic students of high schools. I also play a pivotal role in the Catholic Church, where I lead a local church in addition to mentoring young boys and girls. I must admit that my life has been extremely busy, but I really appreciate since the NIT adequately prepared me for this very fast and challenging life. I therefore enjoy this busy life.
What has happened in your private life in the meantime?
In 2013 I met the love of my life, one lovely lady by the name Agatha Marigu Njeru. Our love journey climaxed into a very colorful wedding on 13th December 2014. Together we have been blessed with two handsome boys (Victor and Anthony) and one beautiful girl (Careen). I enjoy parenting a lot. In the future, I plan to have a foundation where I can help raise more children especially those abandoned by their parents due to social-economic challenges. I am still pursuing politics at the grass root level with a view to positively changing lives of the less fortunate in the society.
What is your most precious / special / remarkable memory from your time studying at the NIT?
Several memories come to my mind when I remember my life in the NIT. The most remarkable moments were when we had those summer barbeques with friends. I also can’t forget the number of times we enjoyed dinner with my mentor family. The whole idea of linking students to mentor families was out of this world. I must say that the networks and friends in Hamburg were fantastic in making life memorable at the NIT. The class discussions were also really lively, animated and lovely especially by lecturers who combined both industrial and theoretical experiences. I won’t forget Professor Thomas J.C. Matzen who really brought out this combination in a very perfect way. I must also appreciate the entire NIT Class 09. They really offered a lot of support when I underwent a surgery at AK Krankenhaus Hamburg. May Almighty God bless the entire 09 NIT Class.
