Current place of residence: Berlin and Munich, Germany
Currently working as: Managing Director & Co-Founder at NetZero Academy & CEO&Founder at ecorion
Where are you currently working and what is the biggest issue that you are facing at work or what is currently keeping you busy there?
My passion is driven by the desire to make a lasting impact on the world, steering us towards a more sustainable future. This passion has guided my educational and career choices, from studying Geology and Biology during my bachelor's to working in development aid in my early twenties. I then embarked on a dual master's program at the NIT and TUHH, specializing in environmental engineering with a strong focus on energy. After gaining experience in various fields, I embarked on an entrepreneurial journey to fully dedicate myself to sustainability.
Within the vast landscape of sustainability, my primary focus is on addressing the critical issue of reducing CO2 emissions, particularly within the energy sector. To achieve this vision, a key component is the development of a skilled workforce capable of effectively reducing our environmental footprint. That's why my co-founder, Dominik Albicker, and I established the NetZero Academy.
Our mission aligns closely with the ambitious goals of the European Union's #GreenDeal: to train an additional one million highly qualified individuals, equipping them with the expertise required to meet our decarbonization targets.
At the core of our efforts, the NetZero Academy serves as a leading educational institution and platform in the field of sustainability, with a sharp focus on decarbonization and energy efficiency. Our mission revolves around nurturing professionals who actively engage in climate action and contribute to the realization of NetZero objectives. We achieve this through practical courses, interactive workshops, and informative webinars, ensuring that our graduates possess the knowledge and skills necessary for this vital task.
Has there been a professional challenge since you were a student for which your studies or experiences at the NIT have prepared you for perfectly?
Certainly, my journey has been filled with a multitude of challenges and opportunities, making it rather challenging to single out the most significant one. My career path has been a diverse one, spanning from management consulting to leading corporate strategy for a sizable organization, and every step has been both thrilling and fulfilling.
Yet, if I had to pinpoint a momentous challenge that also presented a remarkable opportunity, it would be those instances when I realized that it was time for a complete change, a fresh start in an entirely different field. Stepping away from my corporate role for instance, which came with numerous benefits, was undeniably a tough decision. At that juncture, I simply felt it was time for something new, even though I had yet to fully grasp how this "new" would take shape and unfold.
In retrospect, embracing that change was pivotal. It allowed me to embark on a journey of discovery, innovation, and personal growth that has been immensely rewarding. It's a reminder that sometimes, the most daunting challenges can lead to the most extraordinary opportunities, if we dare to take that leap into the unknown.
What is your most precious / special / remarkable memory from your time studying at the NIT?
Without a doubt, one of the most cherished aspects of my academic journey has been the strong bonds I formed with my fellow classmates, bonds that continue to endure even to this day. These individuals, who started as acquaintances in the classroom, quickly evolved into close friends as we navigated the challenges and triumphs of our studies together.
