Gabriela Margarita Espinosa Gutierrez, Class 06
Currently living in: Ludwigshafen, Germany
Currently working as: Sustainability Product Manager & Auditor at TÜV Süd Energietechnik GmbH Baden-Württemberg
Where are you currently working and what is the biggest issue that you are facing at work or what is currently keeping you busy there?
I recently joined the TÜV SÜD Energietechnik GmbH Baden-Württemberg, and I am really excited about it! In my new job, I will be able to collaborate with numerous German and international clients in the area of sustainability-related projects, focusing on the certification of climate actions for carbon neutrality, and also on verifications in the framework of the EU taxonomy for sustainable finance. Furthermore, I will be active in the verification of life cycle assessments and supplier evaluations prepared for assessing impacts on climate and the environment.
Has there been a professional challenge since you were a student for which your studies or experiences at the NIT have prepared you for perfectly?
There is no isolated situation coming to mind. In general, the NIT studies and the experience I gathered during my time at the NIT provided me with the tools and skills to always provide an added value in my professional activities. Examples are the ability to interact in a multicultural environment, communicate effectively, and coordinate projects in a cost and time-efficient manner. Also, understanding the business principles behind the engineering part of my work allows me to contribute to projects with a broader view and communicate better with the business management teams and with my clients. Another example: for my current job in the framework of sustainable finance, knowledge about corporate finance and economics is not only helpful but indeed necessary!
What has happened in your private life in the meantime?
After my time at the NIT, I got married and started a family. We moved to Ludwigshafen 10 years ago already, where we have happily settled in the “German Toscana” enjoying gorgeous summers since then (in Hamburg, I used to miss the sun just too often!). Currently, I am having a very interesting, fulfilling but also challenging time, as my daughters (now 10 and 4 years old) grow and develop their personalities, talents and interests. Being a working mum has been especially hard in the past two years with the Covid-related issues (home-schooling, reduced daycare times, contact restrictions, etc). Luckily, we were able to manage as a team, but it has not been easy! One positive effect of that whole experience, however, is that over the past two years I learned to handle stress differently and set priorities better (health and family always come first!).
